Writing for your mom, the neighbour and your Facebook friend’s grandma might be fun, but don’t you want your target clients to read your blog posts too? 😉 In order to take your business to the next level, it needs the best possible audience! That’s where the SEO part comes into the copywriting!
In case you’re not entirely sure what SEO is, you can check out this blog post about Local SEO which explains how Search Engine Optimization works.
What does an SEO copywriter do?
The shortest possible answer to that question is that they write about what people are actually searching for. Sounds simple, right? Well, not entirely…
First of all they are professional writers (if you’re hiring the right person that is). It’s not a small feat to get to that level! And second they have that magical touch, massaging your keywords into sentences in a way us non-writers just can’t!
If I as a search engine optimizer tell our fabulous copywriter collaborators to write a 1000 word post about topic X without sounding boring and while using the keywords properly, they’ll make it happen!
The keyword research portion is also not to be underestimated, as without research, we don’t know what people are actually looking for! (We might thing we do, but we need data to confirm!)
Do all copywriters offer SEO copywriting services?
They certainly don’t! Some brilliant copywriters are not educated about SEO at all. Understandably it can be a creative buzzkill to continuously keep keywords in mind, so some folks are just not up to it. Let alone that they might not understand how it works.
If you’re working with a copywriter for your website, I highly recommend working with someone who understands SEO!
Here are some questions to ask if you’re not sure they do:
- Do you perform keyword research first? (answer should be yes!)
- What tools do you use for keyword research? (best ones are SEMrush and Ahrefs)
- Can you provide a case study from past work that increased traffic?
Why ChatGPT is not the solution
SEO content should be unique and authentic. And while ChatGPT and other AI tools can generate original text, it often produces content that is generic or similar to existing material. I don’t know about you, but my spidey senses often notice when copy is AI-generated and it can be off-putting.
If you decide to DIY your copy, use AI as an idea generator, but add a personal touch!
Why Fiverr is not the solution
Often Fiverr and other freelance platforms are swarmed with people that will promise you the world for $30. Only for you to find out that they’ve presented you with AI copy that you could have created yourself. Or worse: low quality content that doesn’t meet your requirements.
Do you know the saying “buy nice or buy twice”? That’s Fiver.
The power of consistency

Often business owners don’t have the time to put in the time to create blog posts consistently. Writing SEO content once and never again, won’t work in the long run. You build up your website’s trustworthiness and expertise over time.
If you have a routine, know how SEO works, can write well and know you’ll stick with it: fabulous! But let’s be real, most people just don’t. (Myself included)
That’s where a copywriter can be your solution!
